Technology-Enhanced Learning (TEL): Implementation process

As part of my TEL leadership role for the Department of Psychology (University of Liverpool), I have been led eLearning projects and initiatives to integrate learning technology into teaching and learning. Below there is only a sample of my work.

Enhancing a School’s Curriculum using Technology: Process and Recommendations

My approach to implement a research-informed Department TEL strategy in alignment with the University of Liverpool’s Strategy 2026 and The Liverpool Curriculum Framework has been selected by the University Centre for Innovation in Education (CIE) as a successful case study in 2019 inspiring other Departments within the University. Follow the web link to find more details about the implementation process and/or download the TEL strategic approach to find out the rationale behind this implementation process.

CANVAS adoption project

From December 2019 to June 2021, I have led and managed the Psychology CANVAS adoption process which included three main stages:

1. discussions with the Department members of staff and student representatives;

2. adoption process and supported material preparation for staff and students; and

3. training for staff and students and maintenance of an online support space.

Specifically, I have designed and applied the Psychology CANVAS template to more than 80 modules affecting more than 100 Psychology teaching members. All the template included information about the module (overview, assessment and feedback, and employability).

I have also prepared learning resources for staff and students (i.e., coursework submission, marking process, content creation and use of discussion tools). Finally, I have created and maintained a CANVAS TEL Psychology space to provide a constant support to all the Psychology members of staff, delivering in-house workshops to all the members of staff.

I have been also an active member within the Faculty of Digital Education and Innovation Steering group and University CANVAS Advisory group, assisting other department with the adoption process and being involved in the University CANVAS decision policy documentations for staff and students.

COVID-19 online and hybrid learning approaches

From the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic (March 2020), I had to completely alter the TEL Department strategic direction from on-campus blended learning to an emergency remote fully online approach for the 2019-2020 academic year and a hybrid learning approach for the 2020-2021 academic year. I have initially designed different TEL scenarios which promoted the University Hallmarks (i.e., active learning, authentic assessment and digital fluency) and I have disseminated them to all the psychology programmes (undergraduate, integrated master and the MSc programmes). Through different TEL scenarios teachers could check how e-Learning tools (i.e., padlet, Kahoot, Zoom break rooms, or Microsoft Teams/Google) could be integrated into online and/or hybrid teaching and learning approaches (download the slides below to find out several suggestions which supported online synchronous and asynchronous activities).

In addition, I had individual discussions with members of staff to provide more tailored solutions when this was required.

Due to my involvement in the University Microsoft Teams Champion Group since early September 2019, I have been in the position to lead other Departments across the Faculty and University with the adoption of technology (i.e., Microsoft Teams, SharePoint, Microsoft Stream) to support their teaching and learning over the COVID-19 pandemic.
